Wright Barker RBA |
(English, 1864 -1941 ) |
Sometimes known as John Wright Barker, this artist signed his paintings with bold strokes, frequently dating them as well. Many of his paintings of dogs include very decorative backgrounds, establishing the dog in a domestic interior. Barker painted dogs, hunting scenes, horses, highland cattle, and occasionally landscapes. He executed some fairly large portraits, and frequently worked on large canvases, 50 x 70 ins./127 x 178 cm not being uncommon. Twenty-two of his paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1891 to 1917, and at the Royal British Academy from 1897 to 1918. |
