Margaret Collyer |
(English, 1872 - 1945 ) |
Margaret Collyer was brought up in the country surrounded by "every kind of domestic animal" and wanted to "make animal pictures" from a very early age. It wasn't until she was eighteen that she received formal training at the Pelham School of Art. She then received a scholarship to the Royal Academy School where she studied for the next three years. While there she was successful in helping to change the Royal Academy rule that no female students should work from a nude model. She also attended an "Animal Painters" studio in London. She received a scholarship to study in Dusseldorf under Herr Rochell.
Collyer exhibited fourteen paintings at the Royal Academy from 1897 to 1910. |
